Improving my English

Finally, the last post. In this time I have to talk about how was this subject at the university. So this isn’t the first time I do English at university. The past semester I was in English 3 and because of that I come here with some knowledge about the structure of the subject. In English 3 we have the same format, with classes on Tuesdays and blogging the Thursdays, but in English 3 we have a less thoroughness. When I star t English 4 I feel a little bad, because I have bad feeling about my English qualities and came here with a lot of people who talks English so good, it was like “what I’m doing here”. But then I put an effort (a little) to increase my levels. And I think that I finish this in a “good position” I hope.

About blogs, I have the experience of the past semester, but as I say before, we have a less thoroughness in that classes, so in English 3 I didn’t do all the blogs, and also, I never did the comments, so the new English class be an extra responsibility.

The interest to take this subject obviously was improve my English levels, but now, when the end of the classes is near, I have to do a personal evaluation. Since school I have problems with grammar. I never like this part of any language, so English was an extra effort, but I know this is necessary to have a correct use of this language. Also I have to improve my pronunciation and my vocabulary, because there are a lot of words that I don’t know. And, How I plan to do this? I don’t know, I always try to use English but that isn’t enough. So I think I have to take an English course by myself the next year or in the summer.

In my life is not usual the use of English. Sometimes I try to think in English and when I go to read the lyrics of a song that I like, I try to do without using any translate site or program. In my house I am the only one who has medium English, so when some product comes with an English instruction I have to read to my family. Also I look the some sites in internet in English and I have my cellphone configured in this language to make more “friendly” the use of the English.

Future Job....

Today I have to talk about my future job. Well, I’m studying laws, so I become in a lawyer. But, what kinds of things a lawyer can do? The first idea when someone says lawyer is a man or women, with formal clothes, who have to go to the court and defend a client. In my case I don’t looking to be like this. I don´t like to talk in public, but if for some reasons I have to do, I will. So the kind of work I looking for is to advise people and little companies too. People who has legal problems, they can go to my office and I help to find a solution for that.

But the problem is that I have to start being a typical lawyer. So my first job as a lawyer have to be go to the court to defend a client in front all the judges and the counterpart. But then with more experience I like to have my own office or if I work in a buffet, I will put my terms.
Also if all the things that I say don’t work, I think I will be looking to work for the government or I will join in a buffet with my classmates. Obviously I can combine two things and work in a buffet but only doing the advices.

But it will be time to that, first I want to take more subjects, because now, I prefer the civil law, but then in the next semesters I will have new subjects. I have hopes to administrative law and the elective class of urban law, because I like the streets, the city order, and the urban politics like the permission to build a house or another building (I think it could be about that kind of stuff) and I have a lot of friends who studies architecture and I think we could work together.

In two years

How I see myself in two years, that’s a good question. If I go back two years ago, maybe I was thinking to study laws also, but maybe with a low expectative. My goal always was to study here in the Universidad de Chile, but two years ago I thought that I couldn’t reach that goal. Now thinking to the future, in two years, if I have the chance, I will be still studying here. I will be in 5th or 6th semester, the most difficult times in the career – that is what people says- so I think I wouldn’t have time to spend with friends and do things like go to the cinema or do a regular sport activity because I will be focused in the study. So my goals to do in two years, starting now, is obviously reach that semester in the career, getting over the semesters above, 3rd and 4th.
That focused in my student life, but about my personal life, I think two years in future, I will be the same guy. I like the same music (post hardcore, metalcore, hardcore, etc.) since 4 years now, and that difficult will change. In other things, I think about my responsibilities, because of the university, maybe I wouldn’t go anymore to scout in my school, but I wish that wouldn’t happen. And about my family, I think I will be living with my mom, and hope to be still living with my grandma. About my house, I lived there for 2 years now, and I think that in two years that wouldn’t change. So basically my life will be the same in two years, I think.

R-E-C-Y-C-L-E

My experience with recycling and the care of the environment, I think is good. I’ve been scout for almost 10 years, and I have a good “relationship” with nature.
I think today is easier to learn about how we can cooperate with the care of the environment. Today the information about these topics could be found in the newspaper, in TV, and in internet, in related web pages and also in social networks as Facebook and Twitter.

In my case, I have the habit to recycle years ago. Now I live in a small flat, so do the things that recycle require is more difficult, because you need a place to put the things you want to recycle separately from the garbage. But day by day I have the caution to put garbage in the correct place and if there not a trash  can near to me, I wait to have one or I put the little pieces of paper in my pockets.
Also I have the habit to walk. I like to walk, so if I´m not tired and I have the time to do, I walk to my house, or everywhere I want to go (of course if the place is near from me). And I really want to have a bike, but the problem of the space in my house appears again.
I’m not the kind of person who joins to the ecologist Campaigns, but last year I sign to PETA’s campaign on Facebook. This was about the abuse of the use of fur in the world. I think that was a good reason to join.
I miss in the Santiago people the really care of the environment. People in general always talks about the global warming, but no one does something. The first care stars by ourselves, we shouldn’t give the responsibility to the government in this case. If people really care about the kind of garbage who could be reuse, then the government will see the change and they could put more money in recycling politics.

Letters between prince Charles and ministers. it is right?

This is a piece of news about private letters who prince Charles of Wales was sending to ministers to give his influence in they decisions.
The Attorney general, Mr. Dominic Grieve has put a veto to block the publication of 27 private letters between the prince and the ministers over a seven month period. In those letters, the prince Charles put his most deeply personal views and beliefs.
The veto overrides last month (September) by the tribunal, because they thought public have to know how the prince sought the change in the government policy. This decision, take by Grieve, comes after seven years of government resistance to the Guardian’s request to see the copies of the letters between prince and ministers in period of 2004 and 2005.
Following his decision, the Guardian said that it would be seeking to take this to the high court to challenge the veto.
The Prince Charles have also been accused of meddling in government affairs and influence in ministers decisions.
To defend his veto, Grieve said that the reason to put a veto, is because the letters contains private things of the communication between the prince and ministers, and if they disclosure the letters, it could have an effect upon the willingness of the government to use the confidential correspondence. And also, disclosure of the letters could damage the prince Charles ability to become king.
On the other hand, Katy Clark, a Labour MP, said that the Grieve’s decision is “quite shocking”. She thought that the prince didn’t be allowed to hold his influence in political things.
And Lord Roger said that anyone, king, prince or poor man, have been allowed to influence and make undermine decisions by private interventions who have a public impact. He thought that in a democracy the only way, is to act publicy.
Finally the judges in information tribunal decide to release the letters, stating: “The essential reason is that it will generally be in the overall public interest for there to be transparency as to how and when Prince Charles seeks to influence government”.

Study Trip (post n° 3)

Well, a trip that was meaningful, was my study trip. It was in november of 2009 when I was in 10° grade. It was special because my class would never exist again after that trip. For first time in years, my school will separate the classes by the subject that we are interested, so it was the last time when we could be a class.

We went to Pucon a then to Bariloche, Argentina. Our trip started in our school and we traveled all night and arrive at Villarrica to eat breakfast and then continue to Pucon. There we did a lot of things, like to play paintball, go to the thermal water, canopy and that kind of things.

Then we went to Bariloche, where we went to a toboggan, to the disco, to the chocolate factory, and to a typical Camp day. I enjoyed a lot the time we were in Argentina, because I could buy a lot of cds cheaper than here, and the experience to be in another country and with friends is great. Bariloche is a beautiful place also Pucon, and I wish to be there again.

a bookworm?

No, im not a book worm, I like to read from time to time, but now I have to read tons of books because of the university.  When I was child I hate to read, in the school I took the whole month to read the book that we must read.
Now I like more to read. I don´t like to categorize what kind of books I prefer. If it called my attention has a lot of possibilities to being read. My favourite book, when I was a child was “Las descabelladas aventuras de Julito Cabello”, but when I was in 5th grade someone stole it from my class room. Now I think my favourite author is Edgar Allan Poe, I can read his compilation book whenever I want. But a book that I think is my favourite is “Carlomagno” by Harold Lamb.

The last book that I read was “La semana en que se juntan los siglos”. I enjoy it but I can’t finish because I read it in the summer and it was about 500 pages, and when I enter to the university I prioritized it, so it have about 30 pages left to finish it . It was a gift from my grandmother when I left the school, in November of 2011, so from then to all along the summer, I was reading it.
The book is about a conspiracy in the Chilean army who wants to give a tribute to Augusto Pinochet as a founding father. So, the main character founds a tunnels underneath the center of Santiago, in where was hide the body of Pinochet and he have to protect the president because all this was occurring during the week of the celebration of bicentenary, so the president was in a difficult position because the army was pulling pressure to him to accept the things that they want, and also stop a war with PerĂº, because the army stole a submarine and they threaten to attack the Peru’s army. I recommend it because is interesting how the author, who don’t give us his name, write this book including a lot of military things and creating a situation that could happen. It is a good book but a little slow in the story but in the final chapter it stoles your attention.
